Wadi al-Aqeeq

Wadi Aqeeq
Wadi Aqeeq

Wadi al-Aqeeq runs along the western side boundary of Madinah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) referred to it as the ‘blessed valley’.

  • Sa’ad bin Abi-Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) said, “We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at the Mu’arras, and he said, ‘Someone came to me saying, “You are in the Blessed Valley!”’ [Al-Bukhari]
  • Due to this, many sahabah (companions) and followers, after the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed from this world, built themselves houses around the Wadi al-Aqeeq. One of these was the Castle of Urwah bin Zubair (Allah show mercy on him), the restored version of which still stands today.
