Bab as-Salam (Gate of Peace) is the largest and most ornate gate of Masjid an-Nabawi, located at the northwestern corner of its Ottoman prayer hall. Built around 640 CE during Caliph Omar’s rule, it was originally part of the mosque’s western wall but moved westward during expansions. Though a modern facade was added during the Saudi era, parts of the original Ottoman design remain visible. Despite its relocation, Bab as-Salam is one of the mosque’s oldest and most significant gates.
